Looks like something is wrong under the hood at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law.

I have to say, you would think a braintrust that’s comprised of crackerjack legal minds at a law school should know that the most likely result of this policy and email blast is a lawsuit. But, what do I know?

Read more, including the dean’s email to the 2Ls, at The Wall Street Journal’s Law Blog…

Law Students Lost In Vegas

There’s some strangeness going on in the desert, folks.

At the University of Nevada Las Vegas Boyd School of Law, a law professor, for reasons that are not yet known, failed to grade exams in first-year Constitutional Law classes and to hand in final grades in the classes.

In an email this month to 2L’s at the school, dean John White did not explain what, exactly, is going on with the missing grades. “Please accept my sincere apology for this most unfortunate situation,” he writes, explaining that a substitute professor may be called in to grade the exams on a pass/fail basis.

Read the whole article at The Las Vegas Sun.

Law school gets more selective
By Stephanie Tavares

When it was established in 1998, UNLV’s Boyd School of Law was fast out of the gate. It earned American Bar Association accreditation in four years — quicker than any other law school — and was ranked among the top 100 law schools in the country two years later. The jockey, trainer and owner during those early years was Dick Morgan, the law school’s charismatic founding dean and a one-man force of nature.

Now, with Morgan retired, Boyd School of Law is setting long-term goals and trying to define its areas of niche expertise, even as the school is being buffeted by the recession. If there is a silver lining to the school’s stalled growth because of budget shortcomings, it is that a growing number of wannabe lawyers are sending their applications to Boyd, allowing the young school to become more selective — and enhancing its reputation.
